“Cozily nestled in a room the size of a large closet, my son and I tucked away hours and hours of reading. I painted as we read and listened to The Old Curiosity Shoppe, Great Expectations, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and more. This painting, born of those days, was mentioned in San Diego Watercolor Society as a “People’s Choice.” I chose to do it in a different, more abstract or cubist-like genre than I had done before. I wanted to see if I could create the most variation of color and value within the same spectrum by using fragmenting—like seeing something in larger pixelation.”
