Oil on decoupage of original Leigh Hunt poetry text
“Umbrellas live long in the imagination as one of those mystical, magical happy childhood-imbibed objects that bring delight and nostalgia. Perhaps it was Mary Poppins’ fantastic umbrella, or perhaps it was the idea of being carried away to some other reality. Here, I wanted to create something that held a little irony, while not being so obvious that it lacked interest. What would it mean if the umbrella caught rain rather than protected against it? What would it mean if the image caught a reflection of her or himself in the rainwater as the umbrella collected water?”
