Landscape Series

“This is my oldest and first commissioned painting. My husband and I had moved 1,700 miles to attend grad school at U. Wisconsin-Madison, and I was dreadfully homesick, in part because of the long, freezing winters. I had only three photos of the Palouse, so I decided to paint them. I had never painted a landscape for someone before and didn’t even own watercolors because of the move. The photos we had were taken with a 35mm camera, and there was no internet back then. So, if your photo was blurry or had improper composition, you had to imagine it differently. Nevertheless, this painting has become a family favorite, probably my husband’s favorite painting of all time.”
